DETOX YOUR MIND AND YOUR BODY

DETOX YOUR MIND AND YOUR BODY

Once again, it’s time for spring cleaning, in time to enjoy the warmer weather.  Spring cleaning our bodies and our minds is just as important as spring cleaning our homes, although a good housecleaning certainly can’t hurt!  All our systems need occasional cleansing – it’s been a long winter! I know you are saying “NOT DETOX it’s too hard”. It doesn’t have to be hard, you may just need to make some lifestyle changes to your daily routine and creating a positive lifestyle for both your body and mind.

What does detoxification mean?

When you say the word ‘Detox’, people automatically think of detoxing our bodies. But remember, detoxing our emotions and thoughts are just, if not more important. Sometimes people associate “detox” with extreme measures, but aside from periodic short fasts or detoxification diets, detox or cleansing just means removing as many toxins from our systems and thoughts from our lives and replacing them with healthy alternatives.
Why should we cleanse our thoughts and bodies from negative emotions and toxins?  Because it can greatly improve the quality of our lives. Although we’ve been provided with a fantastic detoxifying system, these days, with all the pollution in our air, water, food and of course the big one – STRESS, our bodies and minds need our help.    Unfortunately, it isn’t as easy to detox our thoughts and emotions as they lay in our unconscious thoughts.  But Kinesiology is here to help. Exposure to Toxins

Toxic emotions build up in our thoughts and feelings from years of negative experiences.   Environmental toxins build up in our bodies, and there are many sources of exposure, including household cleaners, solvents, air fresheners and (hopefully not) cigarette smoke.  Some natural household cleaners are:

  • White Vinegar
  • Liquid Castille Soap
  • Natural Salt
  • Baking Soda
  • Borax
  • Washing Soda
  • Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Lemons
  • Various Microfiber

The natural household cleaners are not only better for our mental and physical health, but they are cheaper too! Our food can contain toxins in the form of additives, preservatives and pesticides.  Eating refined carbohydrates like sugar and refined flour results in a build-up of waste that decays and produces bacteria. If you haven’t yet seen the movie or read the book “That Sugar Film”. I encourage you to. It is a real eye opener.
Many symptoms can be the results of a build up of toxins in the body.  They include: STRESS, constipation, stomach bloat, poor digestion, gas, fatigue, weight gain, excessive mucus, poor concentration, headaches, poor skin, poor memory, depression, body odour, and bad breath. If you haven’t suffered from one of the above, lucky you and you don’t need to read any further. However, if you have suffered from one of the above, keep reading and I’ll tell you what body systems are affected and what you can do about it.

But let’s start with detoxing our emotional bodies. Kinesiology is known as the ‘Stress Manager’. Using muscle testing as a Kinesiologist I’m able to identify where your subconscious is holding onto stress which if not dealt with will then lead to physical symptom and eventually to diseases and disorders.

A Kinesiology balance can remove toxins and STRESS from our body systems and thoughts.

Stress is a fact of everybody’s life today. Maybe it’s always been part of the human condition, but today, we know that it affects every cell and tissue in our bodies. It blocks us of important vitamin, minerals and antioxidants. Breaks down our major organs and lowers our immune response.   Over time, unrelieved stress causes severe acid build-up that hinders our digestion of nutrients and stops our elimination tracts.   It interferes with our body’s cleansing process and actually contributes to toxic build-up.   Reducing stress is critical to our health. You can eat a perfect diet, cleanse your body inside and out and exercise regularly but if you are in a constant state of metal stress your physical problems won’t go away. They will only compound.

Can your thoughts and feelings make your body toxic?

Today there is undeniable proof that they do. Positive thoughts and emotions contribute to vitality. Negative thoughts and emotions are powerful self-poisoners that contribute to ill health. Negative mental and emotional infrastructure for your lifestyle can be even more damaging, because it’s subconscious and it festers. Negative thoughts and feelings are corrosive.   They literally “eat away at you”.   Positive optimistic thoughts are nurturing. They literally feed you by boosting digestion.

Using Kinesiology I can help your body get rid of negative thoughts that are keeping you from leading an amazing life. Did you know that Kinesiology could also help with detoxifying your organs too?   Using muscle monitoring, I can identify the stress in your organs and help distress them so that they can do the job they have been created to do. Below are the main cleansing organs of our body and how Kinesiology can help them work to their optimum.

The Body’s Detoxification Systems

The liver is our main cleansing organ, supported by our bowels, kidneys, lymphatic system and lungs.

LIVER

The liver detoxifies many toxic substances.  It breaks down many harmful substances (including fat, alcohol, artificial colours, flavours, preservatives, airborne pollutants, and poisons in our water and food) and excretes them as harmless by-products into the bile or blood.  By-products in the bile enter the intestine and leave the body in the faeces.
To cleanse the liver, avoid animal products and eat mainly high-fibre fruits, vegetable, seeds, nuts, and legumes.  Drink at least 8 glasses of filtered or healthy spring water per day to flush out toxins.  Avoid saturated fats, refined sugar and alcohol.  Try to have some alcohol free days. Vegetable juices are recommended, such as beet, celery and carrot.  A daily sauna also helps to remove toxins (add water accordingly!). If you don’t have a sauna, try Hot Yoga or Bikram Yoga. You come out of a session very sweaty, but feeling a million dollars.

The emotions associated with the liver are anger, bitterness and resentment. Do you have some suppressed or maybe some unsuppressed anger, bitterness or resentment that has been controlling your life?   The liver is also about being able to start to grow what you want. Why let negative emotions grow into a negative life. Let Kinesiology help you. I can find out why you have not been able to release your anger and bitterness and help you to gain control of your life. A life with positive growth is surely worth the effort!

COLON

The colon (or large intestine) is more than just a ‘garbage shoot’ or the final step in your digestive system.  It is essential to your good health.  It helps to remove water, salt and certain nutrients from indigestible food matter, and forms and eliminates solid waste matter from your body.  Colon health can be affected, not just by your contaminants in our diet, but also by environmental toxins.

To keep your colon healthy

  • Regular exercise.
  • Eliminate processed meats, cut back on red meat and meats cooked at high temperatures
  • Eat vegetables, especially cruciferous vegetables
  • Consume friendly bacteria (probiotics).  You can optimize the bacteria, i.e. reduce the bad bacteria, in your colon by consuming probiotics.  Also limit your consumption of sugar which feeds any bad bacteria. Be careful to purchase probiotics that do not add sugar to make them sweet. Probiotics in a capsule may be a better option.
  • Adequate vitamin D, recommended daily allowance of 5000 IU per day of vitamin D.
  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Eat 5 or more servings of fruits and vegetables each day
  • Limit alcohol (no more than 2 drinks a day for men and 1 for women)
  • Don’t smoke

The emotion associated with the colon is not letting go of negative thoughts and emotions like grief, guilt, and regret. Are you holding on to past regrets, sadness, guilt or any other negative emotions?   Let me help you clear them so that your digestive system is stress free and works to its optimum.

KIDNEYS

Each person normally has 2 bean-shaped kidneys located near the middle of their back; their primary function is to filter metabolic waste products and excess sodium (salt) and water from the blood and help eliminate them from the body. The kidneys also help regulate blood pressure and red blood cell production.
The most important aspect of cleansing the kidneys is drinking adequate amounts of filtered or healthy spring water (at least 8 glasses per day).  Tap water has a lot of heavy metals and fluoride. Always choose for filtered or spring water when possible. Follow a low protein diet.  Avoid all animal protein including dairy products, as these foods are high in phosphorus and encourage calcium deposition.  Also avoid rhubarb, chocolate and all caffeinated products, because these foods increase calcium oxalate or uric acid in the kidneys and could result in kidney stones in susceptible people. Do enjoy cranberry, pomegranate and blueberry juices, which enhance kidney function and provide essential nutrients. If possible, purchase organic fruits as the inorganic fruits will be sprayed with pesticides. Or better yet, grow your own!

The emotions associated with your kidneys are fear, anxiety, and dread. What are you afraid of, what makes you anxious? Is it moving on, showing who you really are, phobias, public speaking, etc. Let me take away those fears that are holding you back. With Kinesiology, I can help you control your fears instead of your fears controlling you.

LYMPHATIC SYSTEM

In your body, your lymphatic system is the system responsible for eliminating cellular waste products. Hundreds of miles of lymphatic tubules allow waste to be collected from your tissues and transported to your blood for elimination, a process referred to as lymphatic drainage. When your lymphatic system is not working properly, waste and toxins can build up and make you sick. Lymphatic congestion is a major factor leading to inflammation and disease.  The lymphatic system helps the immune system by removing and destroying waste, and carrying it to the blood stream.  The lymphatic system also absorbs fats and fat-soluble vitamins from the digestive system and delivers them to the cells of the body where they are needed.

Eating well is a good way to ensure that you have a clean lymph system.  This includes:

  • avoiding foods that are difficult to digest or otherwise unhealthy, such as fatty foods, excessive animal protein, added sugars, and refined carbohydrates
  • drinking plenty of water
  • eating raw fruits to take advantage of the enzymes they provide
  • drinking pure cranberry juice which can be diluted with water and sweetened with pure apple juice.  Cranberry juice contains a number of substances that help to deal with stubborn fat in the lymphatic system.
  • eating plenty of green vegetables to provide chlorophyll as well as many vitamins and minerals to assist in lymph cleansing
  • eating foods high in essential fatty acids is critical to ensure an optimally functioning lymph system.  Some of these foods include flaxseeds, cold-pressed flax oil, fresh, raw nuts and seeds such as walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, avocados.

In addition, several herbs help to cleanse the lymph system, including echinacea, astralagus, and goldenseal. Don’t forget regular exercise is, as always, essential.

Have you heard of ‘Dry Brushing’? You can purchase a dry brush from any health food shop. Dry brushing stimulates your lymphatic system.   Dry skin brushing is a powerful detoxification aid. It stimulates your lymphatic system and helps it release toxins.

The emotions associated with your lymphatic system are lack of love and joy. It is about harvesting all the work that you have done in your life and reaping the rewards. Getting the love that you want and need and being able to give others all the love that you have to give. Let Kinesiology help you feel and give the love. Remember – Love makes the world go round!

LUNGS

Your lungs supply large amounts of oxygen to your blood, to give you energy to work, play and live well.  They also remove carbon dioxide and other waste gases from your body.  The largest airway is the trachea (windpipe) which branches into 2 smaller airways, bronchi, to supply air to the 2 lungs.  The bronchi subdivide many times and eventually evolve into smaller airways, the bronchioles.  At the end of each bronchiole are dozens of bubble shaped, air-filled cavities called alveoli.  The walls of the alveoli are only 1 cell thick so oxygen can be passed to the blood in the surrounding capillaries, and carbon dioxide can be passed back.  With this delicate structure, it’s easy to see how smoke and other pollutants could disrupt this system.

To help detox your lungs:

  • Exercise:  The better your cardiorespiratory fitness, the easier it is for your lungs to keep you heart and muscles supplied with oxygen
  • Don’t smoke – anything.  There’s no safe amount to smoke.  The more you smoke, the higher your risk of lung cancer, and COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis
  • Avoid second hand smoke.  It’s even more dangerous than filtered cigarette smoke
  • Beware of outdoor pollution.  Avoid it as much as you can
  • Improve indoor air quality.  There are a number of indoor sources of pollution including wood-burning stoves or fireplaces, mould, construction materials, pet dander, dust, and even air fresheners and some candles
  • Eat right.  Foods high in antioxidants are good for your lungs – that includes most fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Lung cleansing herbs may be used in teas, cooking, pasted as a plaster on your lung area or breathed in from a steam infusion.

Your lungs are also associated with not letting go of negative thoughts and emotions like grief, guilt, and regret. Let me help you clear them so that you can breathe and live your life!

How should we cleanse?

DO:

  • Eat fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains that are high in fibre§  Drink plenty of fresh water every day
  • Breathe deeply
  • Eliminate stress as much as you can
  • Exercise
  • Sweat
